The Director of Project Finance will lead team which is expected to lead a high performing organization working collaboratively with the business leaders to drive growth.

This role requires the ability to prepare and review complex financial systems and processes in order to provide a comprehensive and in-depth analysis to drive improvement and streamlining to help drive results. This role is directly responsible for evaluating all elements of the forecasting process for which supports the business. The role requires a high degree of professionalism and initiative while directly leading a team of Finance professionals and aligning this team to support multiple business units /leaders.

The Director of Project Finance is expected to establish him/herself as a strong «copilot» within business and finance leadership by supporting the revenue process, driving the transformation as well as accelerating margin improvement. The Director must be able to balance the financial needs of the business leadership with the financial and fiduciary needs of Advanced Group. As a result the role should have a deep understanding of the efficiencies and growth / profitability drivers across the business and be able to translate them into operational actions while guiding business partners working collaboratively to attain operational KPIs positively impacting the business top line growth, efficiency and margin performance – please note this also means being able to correlate the operational outcomes into financial impact.

Responsibilities

Controls

  • Applies current financial and accounting standards, policies and controls, mitigates risk between business unit/functional financial goals & accounting principles and controls. Identifies and prioritizes risks and develops solutions to achieve business objectives while remaining compliant; Sets standards and educates business partners
  • Expected to enforce standards, proactively manage risk areas, provide solutions, and implement of process improvements.
  • Monitors compliance with the execution of financial processes and preparation of monthly business analysis (e.g. revenues and costs, actuals vs. forecast, variances) for defined projects at portfolio level.
  • Relentlessly bring a focus on the underlying data integrity and control framework, and on the execution of all controls and fulfillment of audit requests.

Forecasting

  • In Partnering with Project Leads, the Manager is expected to steer projects toward targeted financial goals and performance (e.g. revenue, profitability, cash flow, etc.).

BU Analysis

  • Provides accurate, transparent, and timely financial analysis on Economic/functional/operational P&L’s and KPI’s to support BU leadership in the decision making process; Clearly articulate financial implications of business decisions to assist in the proactive management of profitability, costs, efficiencies and resources, and provide impact analysis on revenue, costs and metrics; Conducts crucial and challenging conversations to protect profitability and ethics
  • For assigned projects / accounts, oversee activity on balance sheet analysis. Ensure resolution of aged items.
  • Will serve as a partner to a specific customer or set of customers, as well as establish standards and policies for project financial management analytics and decision support
  • Leverages understanding of the business context to synthesize financial and operational data into meaningful business insights that highlight performance, risk, and opportunities at portfolio or customer level. In so doing, evaluates project resource planning support, monitor resource levels on ongoing projects and identify and communicate project/portfolio margin implications at portfolio
  • Provide accurate, transparent, and timely financial and non-financial analysis to support project leadership in project and project portfolio decision making process; clearly articulate financial implications of business decisions / choices, and provide retrospective analysis as well as drive forward looking actions at portfolio level
  • Monitor key project financial management performance indicators, identify implement areas for improvement, develop solutions and adjust org unit tactics, policies and procedures to improve financial outcomes
  • Evaluates BU/Functional staffing plan and monitors utilization trends in order to optimize delivery model efficiencies at the BU level
  • Proactively engage and challenge project and portfolio leadership to achieve financial and business goals; work closely with business to meet financial goals and influence financially sound decision making
  • Responsibilities include coordination of the processes around project revenue and forecasting, project reporting, and review of project unbilled/deferred/advanced positions.

Communicatiuon team and business

  • As part of Business Unit Finance, build rapport with and understand/address needs of functional/business unit leadership. Provide guidance to Business Unit Leaders and other key stakeholders as needed
  • Liaise with BU leadership to support identification and implementation of opportunities to address customer specific concerns within BUs portfolio
  • This position will require excellent leadership, communication skills and the ability/willingness to collaborate across functions and regions.
  • Actively monitors and assesses impact of industry, economic and business unit trends in order to drive performance management at the BU/Functional level
  • Coaches team on financial and organizational processes and systems

Lead and Manage Team

  • Maintain a positive, results orientated work environment, building partnerships and modeling teamwork, communicating to the team in an open, balanced and objective manner
  • Position success will be measured by the overall quality and timeliness of project reporting as well as revenue recognition and forecast accuracy.
  • Participate in formal staff review processes e.g. performance and salary reviews to corporate standards and timescales

Qualifications

  • Clinical or Clinical Research Organization (CRO) expoerience is required
  • Masters ability to listen, interpret, influence, challenge, build relationships, resolve conflict, crisp presentation and discussion facilitation, conflict resolution and negotiation in a matrix structure. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence, motivate others and lead change with an organization across cultures.
    Recommend and implement ways to improve efficiency, eliminate waste, reduce cost, and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Detailed knowledge of project accounting and investigator fee management is key.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of financial analysis and modeling especially NetSuite, excel and PowerPoint. Will need to be proficient in preparing Excel based «what if» models and recognizes and addresses issues with data integrity.

    Strong analytical and process improvement skills.
    Ability to flourish / function in ambiguity and solve problems in such an environment.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in finance, accounting or other quantitative discipline required.

Minimuim Work Experience

  • 8-10 years of experience in FP&A, Project accounting, Site payment process, Financial Reporting, strong understanding on US GAAP, Revenue recognition methodologies, Revenue controls. Should have managed a team. Significant and progressive Finance and Management roles with strong analytical and partnering track record.
